Fox sweater, Christmas decorations and another NEWT!

It's been a while eh? Well I had lost my access codes. I promise it won't happen again. I have written them down carefully and stored them in a safe place now.

In the meantime I've done some knitting: I finished this Fox sweater.

I have also added some crochet Santons to my Advent / Christmas corner.

Here's a close up on the crochet characters.

And recently I've decided to attempt another NEWT in the HPKCHC (I feel pointsy, always). In 4 months I want to vanish 3000 yards of leftovers into mini items. Not only will it make space in my stash but it'll increase my inventory as they'll go into my shop for sale.

I know this is a bit of a crazy challenge, but it's the purpose of NEWTs to be... crazy. To succeed I need to vanish an average of 167 yards per week. As you can see on the picture above, I'm ok for week 1. Most difficult will be to stay focused.

Wish you all a great weekend!

Lace shawl, mail and drawings...

This week has been crazy busy, so I think time has come to look back on all what happened.

1. I finished my Mermaid's Song shawl. It's so lacy it was hard to take a proper picture. I'm still not a big fan of lace knitting, I think I'll never be (even if I love this shawlette!). It'll probably be a while before my next lacy project.

2. I got the November issue of Simply Knitting in the mail: not only does it come with a huge wooden button...

But it came with the best surprise ever: my Heatwave Hippo is featured inside!

3. I've listed some new artwork in my Etsy store: I continued the astrology series with Sagittarius and Pisces...

Zodiac signs astrology art.

It's been a while since my last post. It's this time of the year when you can't show off your knitting too much because you're knitting Christmas presents and the lucky receivers read your blog. It does not mean my needles didn't come in use.

What I can show you as long as they haven't found a new home are those astrology art drawings. Each one represents a Zodiac sign. So far I have 6 done. If yours isn't listed yet in my Etsy shop, don't worry: it will come soon.

Also don't forget to enter the giveaway, last days to take your chance!

Lace shawl on the needles!

If you're a long time reader of this blog you can't have missed this yarn disaster story (and you probably had a good laugh)! After hours of untangling over 1000 yards of lace weight bamboo yarn I didn't even want to see it anymore. Until rencently when I've decided to cast on a shawl with it:

The pattern is Mermaid's song from the Unofficial Harry Potter Knits booklet. It starts with the border. I'm half the way and it looks like it's going to come out pretty wide. Can't wait to get it finished but it goes slooowly.

Also if you haven't seen it yet, I remind you there's a GIVEAWAY running now, don't miss it!

Here are some gift tags I've just listed and you may get with your prize...

Hexipuff madness and other stuff!

1. It's been a while since I've started my hexipuff collection. But I want to maximize my points in the HPKCHC. So I make about 7 each month.

hexipuffs with duplicate stitch charts

Most of the duplicate stitch patterns can be found for free on Ravelry (excepted the Frankenstein), just browse hexipuff and you'll see a lot of ideas to embellish yours.

Collection to be continued in November, in the meantime there's some sweater knitting planned.

2. I took part in an envelope swap on Ravelry and got a fat stuffed one today from Rosalie in the US, thank you again.

3. My Etsy shop has been freshly updated, more art and I also relisted some older knitting patterns!
Here's an overview of the latest work:

And this is it for today, I admit there's been a bit to catch up: this week is pretty hectic!

Mandala and zentangle art week...

Today's post is about my weekly art updates in my Etsy shop. It's all been very geometric with (another bunch of) mandalas and some unique zentangle drawings. Zentangles are perfect to keep busy while on a short trip: they're time greedy to accomplish but you'll only need paper, a compass, a ruler and a couple of black ink pens so materials won't stuff your luggage.

First we have a large ocean life mandala with cute fish and other sea creatures, this one's an original watercolor pencils and ink illustration :

To finish, I've also listed some smaller and thus less expensive zentangle designs:

And I have new socks!

They're done! I finished my pair of Brighton socks. And I love them...

colorwork socks brighton cooper

Know why you need a pair too?
- They are entertaining to knit.
- There is colorwork only in the part you see when you wear shoes (because, you know, you mostly won't work bare boot in winter streets).
- They are a great way to use up leftovers.
- The heel is made in a solid stitch pattern.
- There are 3 sizes, and they fit perfectly.

Now what? Remember this skein of bamboo lace I stuggled to untangle? It was so crazy I put the yarn back in a box. Just took it out, I decided to knit a shawl with it. Going with Mermaid's shawl!

Crochet pouch bag and Christmas cards.

This past weekend has been pretty productive craftwise, probably been boosted by the sun!

First I crocheted this pouch bag, just large enough to put the essentials in: this is my second Keeper project for quidditch in the HPKCHC. There's no pattern. It's a couple of basic crochet squares joined with a row of single crochet, the flap is improvised. And the yarn comes from the leftovers bag, mostly half skeins of Katia Promo-Fin (my go-to yarn).

Second, I added a bunch of Christmas cards to my Etsy shop: each one is unique, so hurry up if you want to be sure to not miss one you like.

So this is it for today, next plans are to finish those socks I've blogged about several times already!

A color blast!

This past week has been rather gray and rainy, so I thought some bright colors would be welcome.

I finally finished my first quidditch sock. A great leftovers busting project. Now to start the second one, second sock syndrom is not an option when I can 50 points in the HPKCHC quidditch for a finished pair.

knitted colorwork socks

The blue yarn is Wendy Happy in colorway Jupiter: I love working with that bamboo blend yarn!

I also colored the mandala section of my Etsy shop somewhat more with a set of 4 x 6" pieces (wouldn't that sheep be cool in a knitter's home?)...

Mandala art fun!

Those days there's been some mandala art fun going on! In Sanskrit, mandala means circle... So I played with the compass quite a bit (well, even a lot).

Second, a couple of smaller mandalas, one with zentangles:

Need ideas on how to "use" those smaller mandalas or my Aceos: you can now turn them into a card or get a framing mat!

See you soon for a post about sock knitting!

Christmas stocking is ready for Santa to come!

I like to start my Christmas knitting early. I hate being in a rush. I totally am each year again because I forgot some stuff I needed to make or decide on last minute projects. But at least my Christmas stocking is ready early this year!

It's made with some charts from Spindleknitter's Stockings pattern (free Ravelry download), however I switched to a short row heel and made a star toe.

So have you started your Christmas knitting too?

Time for a (long picture heavy) update!

Just realised I haven't blogged for a very long time! Been to busy knitting and painting...

1. I finished my Matilda Jane cardigan. As I couldn't find a ribbon that satisfied me I added an icord instead. Happy with how it turned out.

2. I made some more hexipuffs, I'm having a lot of fun with them! Note to HPKCHC players: they're a good way to get easy points for activities without yardage requirements (like classes or some quidditch this term). All the duplicate stitch patterns are charts from Ravelry, just browse hexipuff in the pattern search...

3. I casted on socks. Because winter is coming. And because I had a crush on the Brighton pattern in the September issue of Simply knitting. Mine are going to have a very colorful leg as I wan't this to be a stash buster for my sock yarn leftovers.

4. I'm stocking up for the Christmas season in my Etsy shop: below are a few samples.

Hope you're all having a great weekend!

Is it too late to make sunhats?

Summer is back, sunny and warm. This late summerish weather had me crochet a sunhat. I lost my store bought one and can't remember where. As I have hiking planned if it's sunny, I'll need another one... and it's not so easy to buy one in September, stores have winter hats out already!

So I grabbed a couple balls of cotton yarn (last ones in my stash of the sadly discontinued Muskat Soft), a hook and the lovely There'll be roses sunhat pattern. You can check out Lara Sue's other patterns. I hesitated a while between several of her gorgeous crochet sunhats.

Hexipuff madness and other stuff.

It's been a while since my last post, been quite busy these days so today is time to catch up.

1. Hexipuffs. If you've been on Ravelry in the last couple of years you must have read about the Beekeeper's quilt! I don't plan to make a blanket. I don't need another one. But the hexipuff bug bit me. Especially after I saw all the duplicate stitching charts. This month I've started with 5, firmly stuffed as I plan to make something like a chair cushion with them in the end. Random mix so far: animals, Doctor who stuff and Totoro. I plan those to be my small go-to projects in between larger projects, it'll take the time it takes to have enough for a cushion.

2. Mail. The September issue of Simply Knitting made it to my mailbox. Freebie is the best since I have a subscription: short 8mm bamboo needles. Only pattern I really spotted this month is this beautiful pair of colorwork socks. But after my 12 pairs in 2012 challenge last year socks are not on the top priority list right now.

3. I listed some more gift tags this week, quidditch and house animals: all Harry Potter lovers need!

I'll  be on the road quite a lot this coming weekend, hope to make progress on my cardigan!
